The Millie Lancaster Women's Center at Harbour View is making a difference in women's health in Hampton Roads.
Dedicated to inspiring women to take charge of breast health, reproductive health, osteoporosis and heart disease, the Women’s Center is a comfortable, caring place located in the heart of Harbour View in Suffolk, Virginia. Women deserve convenient, high quality health care, and access to the latest diagnostic tools. At the Women's Center, they'll find that the full resources of Harbour View and of Maryview Medical Center, including the breast health program's streamlined assessment and coordinated care, services of a Certified Breast Health Patient Navigator and the talented, committed members of the interdisciplinary Breast Program Medical Team.
The Health Center at Harbour View operates as a department of Maryview Medical Center offering the latest technology for imaging a woman's health:
- 3-D and digital mammography
- stereotactic breast biopsy
- a new ultrasound unit which offers 3D scanning capabilities and bone densitometry all in one specifically designed area.
3-D mammography when used with conventional 2-D mammography has a 40 percent higher detection rate of invasive cancer than just 2-D mammography. 3-D mammography uses multiple images of the breast taken from different angles to create a 3-D image. Radiologists can then examine the breast tissue one layer at a time, giving them an opportunity to detect even small changes.
Ultrasound technology is often used for diagnosis of breast disease. The Bon Secours Women’s Health Center is home to two ultrasound units, one with 3-D capabilities, and we have dedicated time allocated for breast patients daily.
Osteoporosis is the cause of 1.5 million bone fractures each year. It can go undetected for years, causing permanent bone loss resulting in fractures. The new Prodigy Bone Densitometer at Bon Secours Health Center can detect symptoms and aid in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in about 30 seconds. Early detection is key in maintaining an active lifestyle. Ask your doctor about scheduling your bone density screening today.
Reclast Infusion for Osteoporosis
The Women’s Center now offers Reclast infusion therapy, the only FDA-approved, once-a-year treatment for post-menopausal osteoporosis. One annual intravenous (IV) dose, along with daily calcium and vitamin D, helps strengthen bones and protect them for a full year.
Wellness services coordinated by the Millie Lancaster Women’s Center include health screenings and health education.
At Harbour View, you’ll also have access to therapeutic massage, top-notch personal training, nutrition and weight loss programs, and sports performance programs at Bon Secours In Motion Physical Therapy and Sports Performance.
