Bon Secours Neuroscience awards & accolades
Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, and Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View have been certified Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission. To earn The Joint Commission’s certification, both centers facilities had to meet strict national guidelines and put measures in place to improve the outcome of stroke patients.
What does this mean for our patients?
Bon Secours Maryview and Bon Secours Harbour View are the first medical centers in Western Hampton Roads area to earn this prestigious designation and comes after a comprehensive on-site review by The Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
What was the screening process?
In order to achieve this designation, Bon Secours organized teams of physicians, nurses and therapists to plan, implement, monitor and improve the care of patients who suffer from stroke. The teams also worked in collaboration with the medical centers’ emergency departments and the community to ensure the prompt identification of stroke symptoms and the timely implementation of standardized treatments with the goal of reducing the long-term impact of stroke.
Both Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center's and Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center's Sleep Disorders Center have earned
accreditation by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the
accreditation organization for sleep centers.
What does this mean for our patients?
Our
national clinical practice parameters and policies now align with the
AASM standards for accreditation from our policy and procedure manual
and staff credentials to our education and quality assurance measures.
What is the accreditation process?
AASM
conducted a site visit to review the documents and arrived to inspect
the Sleep Disorders Center. The inspector met with the staff physicians,
the medical director and Rhyne during his five-hour visit. After
writing his review, he forwarded the application and his review to the
accrediting committee.
